The Rent Control Department in Ghana is heading into the digital age as it prepares to start digitizing its operations next month (March).
This move comes after the successful installation of state-of-the-art equipment that will enhance the department’s efficiency, accessibility, and overall operations to better serve the public.
The Works and Housing Minister, Francis Asenso-Boakye (MP), recently visited the Department to assess its readiness to commence online service delivery to the public. This upcoming digitization initiative was first suggested by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during his visit to the Department in 2020. The goal is to streamline and reform the operations of the Rent Control Department.
The online service delivery system is part of the Government’s commitment to transform the operations of the Rent Control Department and serve the interests of stakeholders in the housing sector. The Minister emphasized that digitization will address and streamline the operational deficits of the Department, which is still using rudimentary mechanisms to collect data and serve its clients.
The digital transformation will also significantly reduce human interaction in the Department’s operations, offering both landlords and tenants the convenience of filing their tenancy agreements, registering their properties, and filing complaints online. This will be supported by a dedicated team of staff that will swiftly attend to complaints.
Amit Meluban, the Project Manager, reiterated that once the Department goes live, people will no longer have to physically visit the Rent Control office. They will be able to complete all necessary processes from the comfort of their homes or offices, including making payments.
The system is expected to be launched soon, and efforts will be made to educate the public on how to use the online delivery system. This move marks a significant step towards modernizing and improving the services offered by the Rent Control Department in Ghana.
