Asante Akyem Foase Headteachers Concerned About Poor Infrastructure and Teacher Accommodation
Teachers in some communities within the Asante Akim South Municipality are facing challenges due to poor infrastructure and inadequate accommodation. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school has raised concerns about overcrowding and inadequate housing for teachers, which has affected the teaching and learning environment.
In an interview with Adom News, the head teachers expressed their frustrations despite efforts made by the former Member of Parliament, Alexander Korankye, to implement substantial infrastructure projects through government policies. The main issue highlighted was the urgent need for the construction of a new six-unit classroom block and the provision of accommodation for teachers.
The new block, once completed, will serve as classrooms and include facilities such as a staff common room, a store, an office, and washrooms. The head teachers emphasized the importance of this new infrastructure, stating that the current conditions are not conducive for students and teachers.
Former MP Alexander Korankye visited the school and observed the subpar conditions for students and teachers, committing to building new facilities. Plans include constructing two modern kindergarten classrooms to alleviate the school’s challenges. The teachers expressed their gratitude for his efforts, which led to government intervention to address the challenges they were facing.
Nana Okoforobour Kukupremo II, the Adotenghene of Asante Akyem Foase, also expressed gratitude to Alexander Korankye and his foundation. He acknowledged the positive changes that have taken place in the community and thanked the government for stepping in to address the infrastructure and accommodation challenges.
Overall, the teachers and community leaders are thankful for the support they have received in improving the teaching and learning environment in Asante Akyem Foase. It is hoped that the construction of the new facilities will provide a conducive environment for both students and teachers to thrive.
