The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has made a strong commitment to address the recent clash between residents of Manso Tontokrom in the Ashanti region and private security personnel from Asanko Gold Mines Limited.
In a statement released on Monday, March 4, the Ministry emphasized its determination to hold accountable anyone found to be responsible for the altercation. An extensive investigation is currently underway in collaboration with relevant security agencies to uncover the truth behind the incident.
While expressing condemnation for the unfortunate events that transpired, the Ministry has called for calm among the residents as investigations proceed.
“The public can rest assured that the perpetrators of this act will face the full force of the law if found guilty,” a portion of the statement affirmed.
Reports indicate that three individuals lost their lives during the confrontation, which erupted on Saturday, March 2. The clash allegedly began with gunfire from the Asanko Mines security personnel, resulting in the death of a resident who was part of a group trespassing on the company’s mining site.
In retaliation, residents reportedly attacked the security team, leading to the tragic lynching of two security officers and leaving another with severe injuries.
Authorities are now working to restore peace and order in the affected community following the violent incident.
