The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, has urged for a special audit to be conducted by the Auditor General on the National Sports Authority (NSA). This call for an audit comes after the PAC’s sitting on Monday, February 5, where both the Sports Ministry and the NSA were present.

Dr. Avedzi expressed his concerns about the state of affairs at the National Sports Authority and emphasized the need for a special audit to assess the situation.

Additionally, Sam George, a member of the PAC, echoed the chairman’s sentiments, highlighting the alleged “looting” within the NSA. He revealed discrepancies in the handling of revenues generated by the NSA, misuse of funds, lack of transparency, and questionable accounting practices.

Furthermore, Sam George recounted an incident involving the theft of a pickup truck belonging to the NSA. He disclosed that despite receiving money to insure the vehicle, the Director-General of the NSA was unable to provide evidence of the funds being used for this purpose.

The revelations made at the PAC’s sitting have raised serious concerns regarding the management of the NSA and has sparked calls for a thorough investigation into the agency’s operations.

It is evident that there is a pressing need for greater accountability and transparency within the National Sports Authority to ensure that public funds are managed responsibly. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of effective oversight and governance in public institutions.
