The National Democratic Congress (NDC) commemorated the 58th anniversary of the overthrow of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The party described the coup as a shameful event in Ghana’s history that disrupted Dr. Nkrumah’s vision for the nation’s development and industrialization.

According to a statement signed by the NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the coup was orchestrated by security personnel with the support of foreign interests. The party highlighted that the subsequent actions taken by the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition to erase Nkrumah’s memory and legacy were a deliberate attempt to rewrite history.

The NDC emphasized that Ghana should never allow such treacherous actions to set back the nation’s progress. They called on Ghanaians to reject individuals seeking to distort history for their selfish interests and to uphold democracy for the benefit of the nation.
