The Herbal Medicine Department at Kokofu General Hospital in the Ashanti Region has seen a remarkable success in treating diabetic foot sores, with hospital records showing a near perfect recovery rate for legs that were at risk of amputation.
This news brings hope to patients with diabetes who suffer from foot ulcers, as the condition occurs in approximately 15 percent of diabetes patients and can lead to hospitalization or even amputation.
One patient, a 50-year-old woman, had been dealing with a stubborn foot sore for seven years, with no improvement despite treatment.
Due to financial constraints, she was unable to seek care at a tertiary health facility. However, after receiving treatment at the Herbal Medicine Department, her wound showed significant improvement within just three days.
The head of the department, Emmanuel Amoapim Boateng, has emphasized that treatment is free for Health Insurance holders and the medications administered are more affordable than conventional options.
This positive development offers a ray of hope for diabetic patients, signaling a potential shift in the treatment of foot sores in Ghana.
