The recent emergence of a tidal wave in Abutiakope, Aborigines Beach, and surrounding communities in Keta, Volta region has resulted in the displacement of hundreds of residents, as well as the destruction of buildings and personal belongings.

On Thursday, February 15, the tidal surge caused extensive damage to properties, leaving many people homeless and stranded.

Assembly member of Abutiakope Electoral Area, Mr. Promise Kofi Baccah, highlighted that the tidal wave had also destroyed summer hats, coconut trees, and other recreational areas at the shores.

He emphasized that the affected residents were in urgent need of a sea defense wall to protect them from future tidal waves, as they no longer required relief items.

The situation has left many residents without a source of livelihood, as their farms, boats, canoes, and nets were destroyed by the tidal wave. Mr. Baccah called on individuals, philanthropists, corporate entities, and the government to address the situation to prevent any unforeseen disaster.

As rescue efforts from authorities were yet to reach the affected residents, many had sought refuge with relatives, while others were relocating to other communities. It is evident that urgent intervention is necessary to mitigate the impact of the tidal wave and provide assistance to those affected by the disaster.
