The Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, has called on residents of Wenchi to prioritize the cleanliness of their environments to reduce the number of out-patient department (OPD) visits at health facilities in the area. He emphasized that clean environments are crucial in preventing diseases such as malaria and typhoid fever and reducing the strain on the nation’s resources.
During a clean-up exercise to kickstart the “Clean Wenchi 24” campaign, the Paramount Chief urged women, who are often the agents of change in society and homes, to take the lead in maintaining a clean environment. The initiative, organized by the Wenchi Traditional Council and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, saw the participation of hundreds of residents, along with support from Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ghana National Fire Service.
Following the exercise, Osagyefo Tabrako expressed his appreciation for the community’s turnout and pledged to work closely with the municipal assembly and other stakeholders to sustain the cleanliness efforts in Wenchi. He also announced plans to revise sanitation by-laws to ensure their effectiveness in promoting a clean and healthy environment.
Additionally, the Member of Parliament for the Wenchi Constituency, Alhaji Haruna Seidu, assured continued collaboration with the traditional council and the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to improve sanitation and hygiene in the area. He urged Zoomlion Ghana Limited to provide waste bins at strategic locations to support the cleanliness agenda.
Furthermore, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, Alexander Obour Damoah, commended the Paramount Chief’s initiative and emphasized the importance of residents responsibly disposing of waste to achieve a clean Wenchi. He affirmed the assembly’s commitment to enforcing sanitation by-laws to ensure the town remains clean.
Notable individuals who took part in the clean-up exercise included the Presiding Member of Wenchi Municipal Assembly, James Kwasi Oduro Asare, Chief Executive Officer of PMC Africa Limited and Radio West Africa, Alhaji Abdalla Ahmed Abdalla, and the Wenchi Municipal Police Commander, ASP Nana Boakye Yiadom. The collective effort demonstrated the community’s commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment in Wenchi.
