Iduapriem mine enrolls 40 youths into its apprenticeship programme

AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine is investing in the future by inducting 40 youths into its one-year Youth Apprenticeship Programme at the Obuasi Engineering School.

The beneficiaries, drawn from the mine’s host communities, will be trained in various vocations, including Heavy Duty Machine Operation (ADT, Dump Truck), Electrical and Mechanical Technicians, and Welding and Fabrication. This initiative is part of the mine’s commitment to youth empowerment and community development in the areas it operates.

Senior Manager – Sustainability, Stephen Adjei, emphasized the company’s dedication to investing in the youth and making a positive impact in the communities. This program aims to provide opportunities for leadership and skill development, nurturing the next generation of changemakers.

Under this program, Iduapriem Mine will cover the full cost of tuition, accommodation, transportation, medical bills, and Minerals Commission certification, and provide each trainee with a monthly stipend of GH¢2,000 throughout the apprenticeship.

The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Director of the National Youth Authority, Benjamin Teye Aborbi, commended the mine’s initiative in spearheading youth development and providing avenues for skill development and employment, which will lay the foundation for a brighter future for the communities.

The newly sworn-in President of Unity Youth Zone Network, Francis Adomako, also applauded AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine’s proactive approach to youth engagement and empowerment.
