The political landscape in Ghana is undergoing significant changes as the 2024 general elections approach.

Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, is set to become the campaign manager for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. This comes after President Akufo-Addo appointed MP Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah as his replacement.

The exact connection between the reshuffle and Mr. Botwe’s new position remains unclear, but insiders close to the NPP Flagbearer suggest that the decision was the result of extensive consultations.

An official announcement is expected after the National Executive Committee and National Council meetings on Monday, during which Vice President Bawumia will introduce his campaign team. Additionally, Dr. Bawumia is likely to unveil his campaign team the following week.

NPP General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong emphasized the Flagbearer’s clear vision for the nation, contrasting this with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flagbearer, former President John Mahama, and questioning whether Mr. Mahama had articulated his policy direction a year after being elected as the party’s flagbearer.

In a coinciding event, Samuel Abu Jinapor was acclaimed as the parliamentary candidate for Damongo in the Savannah Region on Saturday.

These changes in leadership and campaign management mark an important shift in the political landscape as the country gears up for the 2024 general elections.
