The President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke, has advocated for a policy that will bridge the gap between commercial farmers and manufacturing firms in Ghana.
He emphasized the need for collaboration between industries and commercial farmers, citing the small impact of commercial farmers on the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
During an appearance on PM Express Business Edition, Dr. Ayim-Darke expressed concerns about the potential waste of farmers’ output if industries continue to struggle due to high taxes and other economic challenges. He called for policy interventions to ensure that firms can absorb the proceeds from farmers, emphasizing that these interventions will significantly impact the country’s GDP.
Dr. Ayim-Darke also called for a regulated system that better serves the interests of Ghana’s economy, providing stability and support for the manufacturing sector to thrive. He stressed the need to address the current state of Ghana’s economy, which allows individuals to import without adequate regulations, affecting the manufacturing sector.
In conclusion, the President of the AGI reiterated the commitment of his outfit to engage the government on these concerns. He emphasized the importance of swift and smart operations across all sectors, highlighting the need to look at the entire value chain to support both the manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
