CalBank PLC has announced the appointment of Carl Asem as its Acting Managing Director, effective February 13, 2024.
This comes following the retirement of Philip Owiredu, who served as the Managing Director for four years and had a twenty-year tenure at the bank.
Mr. Asem, who previously held the position of Deputy Managing Director at CalBank, is bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role. According to the bank, he has been instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the bank and has contributed significantly to its growth and success since joining in 2022.
The board chairman, Mr. Joe Mensah, expressed his delight in welcoming Carl Asem to the new role, citing Asem’s profound understanding of the banking industry and impressive track record. Asem has led the management team in driving strategic and operational transformation, building on existing strengths to accelerate growth in key business areas. Mr. Mensah is confident that Asem will provide leadership as the bank weathers the challenging banking landscape to become a stronger and more efficient bank with sustainable returns to stakeholders.
Asem brings to the position over 20 years of expertise in marketing, sales, relationship management, customer service, and business development. He previously worked at the Ecobank Group for 19 years, leading and driving strategies and initiatives for growth, planning, and sustainable improvement programmes in the Anglophone West Africa region.
With Asem’s extensive leadership background, he is well-equipped to lead CalBank PLC into its next phase of development. The bank is confident that Asem’s appointment will contribute to the continued success and growth of the organization.
