Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has commended Zipline, a logistics delivery company, for its significant role in improving healthcare accessibility across Ghana.
He recounted a personal tragedy that inspired his commitment to finding innovative solutions to save lives.
The loss of his father due to a lack of timely medical supplies highlighted the urgent need for efficient healthcare services in remote and underserved communities.
This drove him to explore cutting-edge technologies, leading him to the doorstep of Zipline, a pioneering drone delivery service based in Silicon Valley. He expressed his determination to bring this life-saving technology to Ghana.
Hospitals and clinics in remote and rural communities in Ghana faced difficulty in obtaining medical supplies, especially in times of emergencies.
To address this problem, Ghana partnered with Zipline, the world’s largest automated on-demand delivery service for medical supplies. The deployment of Zipline’s drone technology has been transformative, particularly in rural areas where accessing medical supplies has historically been challenging.
Ghana now boasts of the largest medical drone delivery service globally, with six distribution centers strategically located across the country.
These centers have facilitated millions of deliveries, including vital supplies such as blood, medicines, and vaccines, to communities in need. It is worth noting that these drone centers are staffed entirely by talented young Ghanaians, which demonstrates the country’s capacity for innovation and excellence.
