Former Deputy Information Minister and a spokesman for former President John Mahama, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has criticized the economic performance of the current administration led by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Economic Management Team.
Kwakye Ofosu rejected any attempt to single out Dr. Bawumia for praise amidst what he described as the government’s abysmal track record. He argued that no objective assessment of the poor economic performance of the current administration would exonerate any of its members from failure.
In a scathing critique, Kwakye Ofosu likened attempts to salvage Bawumia’s reputation ahead of the 2024 general elections to a ‘hot extraction’ in the military.
He vehemently rejected assertions by consultant Mr. Kofi Bentil, who is also a member of think tank IMANI Africa, that Bawumia is more credible than Mahama and should be given a hearing, dismantling Bentil’s justifications as deeply flawed and nonsensical.
Highlighting instances of what he deemed as illogical reasoning, Kwakye Ofosu compared Bawumia’s economic performance to Mahama’s, citing statistics on GDP growth, inflation rates, debt management, and other economic indicators.
He also criticized the government for unfulfilled promises and detrimental policies, pointing out the significant increase in debt under Bawumia’s watch, alongside a depreciation of the currency.
Kwakye Ofosu urged the media and the public to scrutinize the government’s performance objectively, rather than perpetuating biases and downplaying Mahama’s successes in favor of a failing administration.
It is evident from Kwakye Ofosu’s statements that a fair assessment of the NDC’s achievements and the current administration’s failures is essential in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.
