The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has taken a firm stand against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) following the recent spate of power outages in the region. Communities in the Ashanti Region, like many others across the country, are expressing their frustration over the constant disruptions in electricity supply, which they deem unbearable.

In a recent interview on Angel FM in Kumasi, Mr Osei Mensah issued a warning to ECG and GRIDCo, demanding a detailed explanation for the ongoing power outages within seven days. He emphasized the negative impact these disruptions are having on businesses and residents in the region.

Mr Osei Mensah stated, “The word of caution I’m sounding to the ECG and GRIDCo is that, if I don’t get a satisfactory explanation after listening to the Ministry of Energy with the response, I will demonstrate against them.” He further added, “I’m saying this and everybody should put on record, I will be the first government appointee, the first regional minister to lead a demonstration in this region if they are not able to give a reasonable explanation. I will lead a demonstration in the region and at that time nobody should come and stop me.”

The Minister’s strong stance reflects the growing frustration and dissatisfaction among the populace regarding the persistent power outages. The need for reliable and consistent electricity supply is crucial for the smooth operation of businesses and the daily lives of residents in the region. Mr Osei Mensah’s threat to organize a protest underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for prompt action to address the power challenges faced by the Ashanti Region.
