All set for NPP primaries – Check out live update!

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its readiness for the parliamentary primaries set for Saturday, January 27.

Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party’s General Secretary, assured on Thursday that ballots and other election materials had been readied for distribution.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Thursday, January 25, he expressed confidence the elections would be done by the 2pm closing time. Mr. Kodua did not foresee any delays and urged stakeholders to facilitate a seamless exercise.

“For now, I can tell you for sure that our primaries will come off on Saturday. Everything is set. Election materials including ballot papers, and other accoutrements are ready to be transported,” he said.

The party has cleared 326 parliamentary aspirants for the January 27 primaries to elect its parliamentary candidates in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament (MPs).

Out of the total number of 373 aspirants who filed to contest the primaries, after vetting, 29 are going unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two stepped down, one had an incomplete form, and two did not show up for vetting, leaving the qualified aspirants for the primaries at 326.

Ahead of the exercise, the party has announced that the Ghana Police Service will assume full responsibility for security arrangements during the polls.

The General Secretary stressed that no private security personnel or machinery would be permitted at the election grounds, and anyone violating this directive would face consequences from the police.
