President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo recently attended the funeral of Mrs Gertrude Essie Quashigah at Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) Park.
The event was also graced by the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and other dignitaries including Madam Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the Chief of Staff, and Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister.
Mrs Quashigah, the former National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) and Chief Executive Officer of Ambar Quality Foods Limited, passed away at the age of 63. During her tenure, the GSFP made significant progress in ensuring that schoolchildren across the country had access to nutritious meals.
Attendees at the funeral spoke highly of Mrs Quashigah’s dedication to service and her entrepreneurial spirit. A staff member from the GSFP acknowledged her substantial contributions to the program, stating that her legacy of perseverance, compassion, and leadership would continue to inspire future generations in Ghana.
The GSFP, a government initiative established in 2005, aims to provide food to children in public basic schools from kindergarten to primary six. Its objectives include increasing school enrolment, attendance, and retention, while also addressing short-term hunger and malnutrition among students.
The late Mrs Quashigah’s impact on the nation’s socio-economic landscape through her work at the GSFP and Ambar Quality Foods Limited was recognized by those in attendance at her funeral. Her commitment to improving the educational system and the lives of many schoolchildren will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy in Ghana.
