Agrihouse foundation launches 2024 gathering of the royals

Agricultural advocacy NGO, Agrihouse Foundation in partnership with the Queen Mothers Foundation has introduced the 2024 edition of its program known as Gathering of The Royals at the Accra Tourism Information Centre.

The event, scheduled for February 29, will be held at the GNAT Hall in Accra under the theme “Seeds of Change: Cultivating Gender Equality in Agriculture and Honoring Women’s Advancement.”

The program is set to offer a day full of enlightening discussions and valuable networking opportunities. The 2024 edition aims to focus on peace and food safety and is expected to bring together enterprising queen mothers from various traditional councils across the country to discuss ways to improve agriculture in different communities and create awareness among the youth in agriculture.

During the launch, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, emphasized that the program seeks to create a platform for discussions aimed at influencing workable agricultural policies in Ghana to facilitate growth within communities. She highlighted the importance of the gathering in forging stronger partnerships among female traditional leaders and driving comprehensive growth in the agricultural sector.

The theme of the program emphasizes achieving gender equality in agriculture, advocating for concerted efforts to empower women in agribusiness and afford them equal opportunities for growth and advancement. Alberta Akosa also mentioned that her foundation sent one of the queen mothers to America to familiarize herself with modern agric systems and discussed the possibility of an exchange program for queen mothers to learn modern agricultural techniques.

Queen mother of Hlefi Traditional Area, Mama Megbenga II, who doubles as a civic educator, emphasized the extensive agricultural awareness she has created in her community through the Agrihouse Foundation program. She encouraged school children and women to take agriculture more seriously, emphasizing that it is a viable career option, especially for those who cannot afford tertiary education.

Mama Megbenga invited investors to her area to take advantage of commercial farming opportunities, which would create jobs for the youth. The skills acquired from the Gathering of The Royals have helped her in educating her community on agriculture, she added.

The 2024 edition of Gathering of the Royals is expected to be a significant event in driving meaningful change and progress in the agricultural sector by involving influential traditional leaders and advocating for gender equality and empowerment in agribusiness.
