Ghana’s Embassy in Tripoli, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), successfully evacuated and repatriated 165 Ghanaians from Libya to Ghana.
The repatriates are anticipated to arrive at Kotoka International Airport at 1500 hours GMT.
This successful mission was announced by the Information Ministry in a press statement issued on Thursday, February 8.
Last October, the Embassy and IOM facilitated the safe return of the fourth batch of 169 Ghanaians from Tripoli to Accra under the Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) program for 2023.
Furthermore, a third batch of 134 Ghanaian nationals was repatriated from Misrata to Ghana on October 10, 2023, under the same program.
The total number of Ghanaians who have benefited from the VHR program in 2023 has now reached 629.
Priority was given to individuals in detention centers, those requiring medical assistance, families with children, stranded individuals, and destitute individuals in need of assistance to return to Ghana.
This initiative is a commendable effort to ensure the safety and well-being of Ghanaian nationals abroad.
