The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has defended President Akufo-Addo’s decision to reshuffle his ministers just ten months before the general election.
Critics have questioned the timing of the reshuffle, suggesting that it is too late to make any significant impact in an election year. However, speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story, the NPP General Secretary emphasized that in political life, 10 months is a significant period and that there is still enough time for the new appointees to make a difference.
Mr. Frimpong urged Ghanaians to pay attention to the vision and innovative ideas that the new appointees bring to the table. He also emphasized the importance of measuring the performance of the new appointees in the coming weeks and months and to make a judgment based on their results.
The General Secretary had previously called on President Akufo-Addo to reshuffle his government, citing the urgency of the reshuffle in the party’s pursuit of “breaking the eight.”
When asked about the timing of the reshuffle, Mr. Frimpong responded that President Akufo-Addo acted at the right time, amid the turbulence and crisis, ensuring that the changes were made when the storm had settled.
President Akufo-Addo reshuffled nine appointees on Wednesday, February 14, with the major change being the reassignment of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Mr. Frimpong’s comments suggest that he believes the reshuffle will serve a useful purpose, and he hopes that the new appointees will make a positive difference in President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
