Wendy Shay, the self-acclaimed queen of Ghana music, recently found herself at a loss for words during an interview when asked to mention five top Ghanaian musicians whose work she appreciates.
The incident occurred during an interview on Accra FM where Wendy was promoting her latest song.
During the interview, Wendy shared her views on the current state of Ghanaian music, noting that while the industry as a whole is struggling to meet international standards, there are individual artists who have made significant contributions to making the industry vibrant.
When pressed to name just five top artists and songs currently dominating the airwaves, Wendy hesitated, explaining that she believes that the music topping trends and charts are often a result of monetary investments rather than a measure of hard work. She criticized the criteria used to select top artists, stating that it often comes down to money, influence, and connections.
Despite not naming specific artists, Wendy did hint that she enjoys Safo Newman’s music and expressed her admiration for the new crop of artists who are striving to reach the top.
