Team Eternity Ghana is caught up in a copyright infringement scandal with Hallelujah Voices over the use of the phrase ‘Defe Defe’ in their latest song.

The executive producer of Hallelujah Voices, Kwame Mickey, took to Facebook to express his displeasure, claiming that Team Eternity Ghana had copied their song without permission.

The controversy sparked debates on social media, with some arguing that ‘Defe Defe’ is not a unique expression created by Hallelujah Voices, while others pointed out the similarities in the lyrics between the two songs.

Despite the differences in rhythmic patterns and melodic phrases, Kwame Mickey highlighted the lyrical content as the basis for his claim.

Hallelujah Voices’ ‘Defe Defe’ song, written by Osuani Afrifa and executively produced by Kwame Mickey, was released in 2004 and gained popularity, reaching number one on Apple Music Top 100: Ghana.

The song, featured on the group’s ‘Testimony’ album, surpassed other hits to claim the top spot shortly after its release in May 2024.
