Ghanaian music icon Sarkodie has made a bold statement advocating for the overhaul of Ghana’s music royalty system.
The rapper, also known as Michael Owusu Addo, spoke at the 3i Africa Summit Partners and Stakeholders Mixer in Accra, where he urged for a structured system to ensure artists receive fair compensation for their work.
Joined by other influential figures in the creative industry such as KOD, Chief Moomen, and filmmaker Juliet Asante, Sarkodie delved into the crucial intersection of the Creative Industry, Policy, and Fintech during the panel discussion.
Sarkodie highlighted the challenges within Ghana’s music royalty system, stating, “The royalty system has been a big issue here in Ghana, but it’s something so little to do; it’s not that hard. It’s just putting the system in place and getting the money back.”
The 3i Africa Summit aims to revolutionize Africa’s economic landscape through strategic capital allocation, with a focus on long-term growth and development. The event provides a platform for collaborative discussions and innovative solutions to drive positive change within the continent’s financial ecosystem.
Sarkodie’s advocacy for reform in the music royalty system is a crucial step towards ensuring that artists in Ghana receive the recognition and compensation they deserve for their creative work.
