Ghanaian artist Renner is speaking out against the lack of female representation in the reggae/dancehall category at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards. In an interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz is A-Z, the multi-talented artist emphasized the importance of including women in such awards shows to support and promote up and coming female talents in the industry.
Renner urged stakeholders in the music industry to focus on creating more support systems for emerging artists, especially women. She highlighted the need for the media to actively promote talented female artistes and called for more inclusivity in award schemes to showcase the diverse talents within the industry.
Expressing her disappointment at the absence of female acts in the reggae/dancehall category, Renner emphasized the need to recognize and support the many talented women making significant contributions to the Ghanaian music scene. She encouraged the inclusion of female artists in such categories to provide them with the platform and recognition they deserve.
The nominees in the Reggae/Dancehall category for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards include Epixode, Ras Kuuku, Stonebwoy, and Samini. Renner, known for her versatility and genre-blending music, has collaborated with various artists both locally and internationally, including a recent collaboration with Jamaican music duo Chakademus & Pliers.
Renner’s manager, Iddriss Yussif, expressed the management’s commitment to elevating her music to a global standard. Last year, Renner released a 3-piece EP titled ‘Never Stop Try’ under RNY Music, showcasing her resilience and dedication to her craft.
