A rising star in the music scene, Peter Somuah, has solidified his reputation with the release of a new album dedicated to the beloved Ghanaian genre of Highlife.

Titled simply ‘Highlife’, this 10-track collection is a celebration of the rhythmic and soulful style of music that has always resonated with Somuah.

Recorded in both Germany and Ghana, the album features collaborations with iconic figures in the Highlife world such as Agya Koo Nimo, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Pat Thomas, and Lamisi Akuka.

Each artist brings their own unique flair to the project, contributing to a vibrant and uplifting portrayal of Ghana-inspired music.

One standout track, ‘Chop Chop’, showcases the talents of Ambolley and harkens back to the golden era of Highlife big bands.

With fluent horn lines and a message about corruption delivered in Ambolley’s signature jovial style, the song is a testament to the timeless appeal of Highlife.

‘Mental Slavery’, a track featuring Somuah on vocals, serves as a powerful reminder to shake off feelings of inferiority and embrace the greatness within. Similarly, Pat Thomas’s soulful voice on ‘We Give Thanks’ underscores the importance of gratitude in our lives.

For Somuah, the goal of the album is not to showcase his own abilities but to shine a light on the beauty and richness of Highlife music.

Having honed his craft in bands in Ghana before settling in the Netherlands, Somuah and his talented Dutch band have performed around the world, spreading the joy of Highlife to audiences far and wide.
