The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) recently paid tribute to the late legendary traditional singer, Naa Amanua Dodoo, a member of the iconic Wulomei band. Recognizing her significant impact on promoting Ga traditional music internationally, MUSIGA President Bessa Simons described Naa Amanua as a maternal figure within the union.
During her burial service, Simons highlighted Naa Amanua’s pivotal role in shaping Ga traditional music, referring to her as one of the authentic voices in Ghana. He emphasized her dedication to music and her contribution to the unique sound of the Wulomei band.
“It is sad that we should lose her. For us at MUSIGA, we have lost a gem. Naa was always there to support us, especially the young women in the industry. We have lost a mother, and that is why many are grieving her loss,” Simons expressed.
Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, also commended Naa Amanua Dodoo for breaking barriers in promoting music, demonstrating that language is not a hindrance to connecting with audiences.
The legacy of Naa Amanua Dodoo continues to inspire and celebrate the rich heritage of Ga traditional music. Her influence on the music industry in Ghana will be remembered and cherished by many for years to come.
