The management team of musician Mr. Drew has come out to defend their artist against allegations made by JamRok Bar and Event Centre.

According to JamRok, Mr. Drew failed to perform at their ‘Easter Dance Party with Mr Drew’ event despite receiving 50% of his performance fee in advance. However, Mr. Drew’s team has stated that the event organisers did not meet certain agreed terms and delayed the event unreasonably.

The team clarified that Mr. Drew was contacted in March for the event scheduled for April, with an agreement to receive 50% of the performance fee in advance and the rest on the day of the event before his performance. On the day of the event, Mr. Drew and his team arrived at the venue but were not called to perform as the event did not start as scheduled.

Despite delays, Mr. Drew and his team waited to be called to perform, but when requested to join a convoy to attract patrons to the event, they asked for the outstanding 50% of the fee as agreed. The event organisers refused to make the payment and instead demanded Mr. Drew’s immediate performance citing low turnout.

After waiting for an additional 50 minutes with no indication of when he would receive his payment, Mr. Drew and his team left the venue at 1:50 am. The team criticized JamRok for making baseless claims against Mr. Drew and issuing threats to the artist and his team on social media and private messages.

In response, JamRok accused Mr. Drew of breaking their contract by arriving late and leaving the event grounds without performing. They claimed that after trying to contact Mr. Drew to perform, they found him and his team asleep in their hotel room and later driving past the event grounds towards Accra.

Following the exchange of accusations, JamRok has filed a lawsuit against Mr. Drew at the District Magistrate Court – Senchi. They are seeking the recovery of the performance fee paid to Mr. Drew, special damages for costs incurred in organizing the event, and general damages for the damage caused to their brand by the event’s cancellation.

Mr. Drew’s legal team has demanded a retraction of the defamatory statements made by JamRok and threatened further legal action if the claims are not withdrawn. The dispute between Mr. Drew and JamRok Bar and Event Centre continues, with both parties standing their ground on their respective versions of events.
