Iconic Ghanaian female rapper Eno Barony, known as the Rap Goddess, recently opened up about her experience when her father saw her perform on TV for the first time at the age of 15.
The talented artist, known for hits like “God Is a Woman,” “Wats Ma Name,” and her popular remix of “Tonga” by Joey B featuring Sarkodie in 2014, shared her story on a lifestyle show called The Chat hosted by Ekow Koomson.
Eno Barony made history in 2021 by becoming the first female artist in Ghana to win the Rapper of the Year award at the 3Music Awards. She has also been recognized with accolades such as the “Best Rap Performance Of The Year” at both the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
During the interview, Eno Barony recounted the moment her father, a reverend minister, saw her rapping on TV. She explained how her father woke up during a commercial break and asked about the voice he heard, only to be surprised to see his daughter performing on television. Despite the pride he feels for her success, Eno Barony mentioned that her father still emphasizes the importance of Jesus over celebrity status.
The artist shared how she was reprimanded for her performance, as she was expected to uphold certain values as a reverend’s daughter. Despite the initial backlash, Eno Barony’s passion for music and rap has helped her break barriers in the industry and become a respected artist in Ghana.
