The Ghanaian Highlife music scene is in mourning following the sudden death of revered artist Dada Kwaku Duah, affectionately known as Dada KD. His manager, King Pee, has officially confirmed the singer’s passing and vehemently dismissed various rumors surrounding his death.
In a heartfelt interview with Ghana Weekend on May 17, 2025, King Pee revealed that Dada KD experienced a sudden illness on May 16. The musician became unresponsive, prompting immediate action from his household staff who hurried him to Gbawe SDA Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead that same night.
“Dada KD was not suffering from any chronic illness. He became quiet, and despite our swift response, we couldn’t save him,” King Pee shared.
In light of rampant speculation across social media, King Pee strongly contended that the late Highlife sensation was not in financial distress, nor was he facing psychological issues or violence in a recording studio, as some had claimed. He also clarified that a distressing video circulating online was filmed five years ago during an interview and does not reflect Dada KD’s recent state of affairs.
“Dada KD was doing well. He was prepared to submit his UK visa application for a show scheduled next Saturday and had no conflicts with anyone. It’s disappointing to see people spreading false narratives for attention,” he emphasized.
Dada KD, celebrated for his timeless hits like Yebeye Yen Ho Fi, Obiaa Se Eye, and So Mu Gye, leaves behind five children and a fiancée residing in the United States. His passing marks a profound loss for fans and the broader community of Ghanaian Highlife music, closing a remarkable chapter in an illustrious career.
The family is expected to release an official statement regarding funeral arrangements and further details in the coming days.
