Glasgow-based Ghanaian musician and storyteller, Cheef Chebe, is set to release his latest single ‘Waka Waka’ on March 6, 2025. The song promises to bring a unique blend of African rhythms and sounds, incorporating elements of hip-hop, pop, and jazz.
Described as Afro-fusion, ‘Waka Waka’ combines sounds from Ghana and Nigeria, including hiplife, Naija beats, and juju music. The song carries a powerful message of repatriation, urging black Africans in the diaspora to return home to the beautiful African continent.
Cheef Chebe, known by various monikers such as Suleman Chebe, Soulay Puliman, and Frank McChebe, has made a name for himself in both the music and literary worlds. Originally from Ghana, he relocated to Scotland in 1997, where he has become a prominent figure in Glasgow’s artistic and African community.
With a background in traditional Ghanaian music, Chebe infuses his performances with folklore, rhythm, and healing energy, using instruments like the Djembe drum and the Balafon. He is the founder and music director of the Glasgow African Balafon Orchestra (GABO) and has worked on several notable projects, including upcoming albums with GABO.
Cheef Chebe’s creativity extends beyond music into literature, with self-published books exploring African stories and traditions. He is not just a musician but also a laughter coach, happiness guru, and former chair of the Ghana Welfare Association in Scotland.
