South African singer Tyla is making waves in the music industry after her recent wins at the 2024 MTV EMAs.

Tyla took home the titles for Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, and Best R&B, beating out tough competition like Ayra Starr, DBN Gogo, Diamond Platnumz, and TitoM & Yuppe.

In her acceptance speech, Tyla gave credit to Afrobeats for opening doors for African music, saying, “Thank you to Afrobeats, it has opened many doors for African music.”

This acknowledgment comes after her previous win at the 2024 VMAs, where she showcased her Amapiano roots in her hit single “Water,” which also incorporates Afrobeats influences.

Despite facing tough competition from Nigerian artists like Asake, Rema, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Tems, Tyla emerged victorious at both the VMAs and EMAs ceremonies.
