Stakeholders in the Volta Region are expressing their concern over the stagnant state of the movie industry in the region.
Eunice Dake, the Festival Director of the Wova International Film Festival, highlighted the lack of financial support and understanding of the industry as major factors contributing to this stagnation.
She emphasized that there is a limited appetite for investing in the film industry in the region, making it challenging for filmmakers to thrive.
Dake acknowledged the potential of the Volta Region in film production but noted that there is a need for a significant push to bring productions from the region to the mainstream audience.
She also raised concerns about the improper use of the Ewe language in movies, hindering the promotion of the industry.
To address these challenges and revitalize the industry, Dake’s organization plans to organize movie festivals to engage stakeholders and generate public interest. They also intend to provide training and masterclass sessions for industry players to enhance their knowledge and skills in film production.
Additionally, they plan to facilitate exchange programs with renowned industry players from around the world to contribute to the growth of the movie industry in the Volta Region.
The recent Wova International Film Festival showcased several movies, including productions from DEEPROOT PICTURES and other international filmmakers.
Koku Lumor, a lead character in one of the showcased movies, expressed optimism that the festival would serve as a catalyst to educate and inspire practitioners in the region, ultimately leading to the production of high-quality films that attract investors.
