Beloved Ghanaian actress Adwoa Smart recently shared a heart-wrenching story from her youth that sheds light on a difficult period in her life.
Adwoa Smart, whose real name is Belinda Naa Ode Oku, is a well-known figure in the Ghanaian entertainment industry with a career spanning several decades. She rose to fame for her unforgettable role in the popular Akan Drama TV series, “Obra.”
In a candid interview on Channel One TV’s entertainment and lifestyle show, UPSIDE DOWN, Adwoa Smart revealed that she faced relentless bullying from her classmates during her early years due to her small stature.
The constant teasing and ridicule took a toll on her self-esteem and led her to lose interest in education.
“I stopped going to school because my mates were laughing at me because of my size… It got so bad that I lost interest in going to school so I dropped out,” Adwoa Smart shared with host Frema Adunyame.
Expressing her disappointment, the veteran actress lamented the lack of support from the school authorities who failed to protect her. “The teachers didn’t help me at all. They were supposed to protect me, but they didn’t,” she added.
Reflecting on the challenges she faced, Adwoa Smart revealed that she was unable to continue her education at another school due to her young age and inability to make decisions independently.
Despite the setbacks she faced in her youth, the resilient actress remains an iconic figure in the Ghanaian entertainment scene.
