After enjoying six successful runs in December 2023, George Quaye’s Image Bureau and Naa Ashorkor’s April Communications are bringing back the popular play, “The Gods Are Not to Blame.”
The stage play will be showcased at the National Theatre on Thursday, March 21, 2024, and Friday, March 22, 2024, at 7pm. Additionally, there will be two shows on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 4pm and 8pm, also at the National Theatre.
Director George Quaye shared that the March runs of “The Gods Are Not to Blame” have been organized in response to requests from those who either wanted to witness it again or had missed the previous run in December 2023.
The play, an adaptation of the original Greek classic “Oedipus Rex” by Sophocles, as reimagined by Nigeria’s Ola Rotimi, has garnered praise for its captivating storytelling. Veteran actor David Dontoh, who portrayed the narrator, delivered a compelling performance that left a lasting impact on audiences.
“The Gods Are Not to Blame” narrates the tale of Odewale, played by Andrew Adote, a boy destined to commit a heinous act by birth. The story delves into themes of fate, destiny, and the complexities of human nature.
The plot unfolds as Odewale confronts his predetermined destiny to fulfill a tragic prophecy. Despite efforts to alter the course of events, the story takes unexpected turns leading to a series of dramatic and poignant moments.
Powered by Image Bureau and April Communications, “The Gods Are Not to Blame” promises to be a thought-provoking and emotionally engaging theatrical experience.
