Many questions still surround the murder of legendary Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.

Yolanda Saldivar, who was once the singer’s trusted friend and the president of her fan club, is now speaking out only a year before she is eligible for parole.

She has spoken out in a new prison interview, which is featured as part of the Oxygen docuseries titled “Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them” that also includes interviews with Saldivar’s family, investigators, and prosecutors.

Selena was tragically murdered in 1995 at the age of 23. Yolanda Saldivar had been an avid fan who earned the trust of the singer and was later given the responsibility of managing two of her boutiques.

However, when fans began complaining about paid membership fees without receiving any merchandise in return, the singer confronted Saldivar over the phone and fired her. Saldivar then begged to meet her in person claiming she had papers to prove her innocence.

It is believed that when Selena met with Saldivar in a hotel room, things escalated quickly, and that’s when Saldivar shot her.

The public outcry resulting from the murder and Saldivar’s subsequent arrest, began to paint her motives in a negative light even before her trial began. The Oxygen docuseries claims that she was convicted in the court of public opinion before she was found guilty in court. The series documents her side of the story, where she claims that she was the victim of preconceived notions and lies and that, in reality, she didn’t intend to kill the beloved singer.

Saldivar alleges that she intended to harm herself and not the singer but the gunshot was accidental. Despite her claims, she was eventually convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole following her eligibility in 2025. Her version of the story is bound to create controversy and questions the narrative that has been presented to the public for decades.

The Oxygen docuseries is set to air on February 17th at 8 p.m. concluding on February 18th at 7 p.m. This two-part series is sure to provide some new and surprising information and will be a must-watch for fans of Selena and those interested in what is sure to be a unique perspective on the high-profile murder.
