Renowned Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as “Mama G,” has been honored with an honorary doctorate in Theatre and Media Arts from the Achievers Network Academy in the United Kingdom.
This prestigious recognition is a testament to her exceptional contributions to Nollywood and African cinema spanning several decades.
The award ceremony took place at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Saturday, November 30, 2024, where a plethora of celebrities, friends, and family members gathered to celebrate the iconic actress.
Alongside Ozokwo, Yoruba actors Adebayo Salami and Jide Kosoko were also honored for their remarkable roles in the industry.
Taking to Instagram to express her gratitude, the elated Mama G shared, “Today was like a movie. Honourary Doctorate Degree. Thank you, UNILAG. Thank you.”
The honorees were commended for their pivotal role in propelling Nollywood to international acclaim.
Their lasting impact includes legendary performances, nurturing emerging talent, and showcasing African heritage through the lens of cinema.
As a trailblazer in Nollywood, Patience Ozokwo kickstarted her career as a radio announcer before gaining widespread fame for her role in the 1999 movie “Authority.”
With a portfolio of over 100 films, she has delivered unforgettable performances in timeless classics like “Ukwa” (2001), “Blood Sister” (2003), and “Billionaires Club” (2003).
