Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg and 20th Century Studios are preparing for a new installment in the Predator franchise.
The upcoming movie is titled “Badlands” and will not be a sequel to Trachtenberg’s previous Predator movie “Prey,” but rather a brand new story set in the future.
While plot details are being kept secret, it is known that the new film, like its predecessor “Prey,” will feature a female lead. Patrick Aison worked with Trachtenberg to write the story, and he will pen the screenplay. 20th Century aims to begin production in July 2022.
The success of “Prey” has reignited interest in the Predator franchise, prompting 20th Century to plan a number of new projects, with Trachtenberg at the forefront. The project is still largely under wraps, and 20th Century has made no official comments on the matter.
The original Predator film, released in 1987, was a muscular action movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and Jesse Ventura.
The film drew a cult following and became an instant classic, spawning three sequels, comic books, and video games. Trachtenberg first attracted attention with 2016’s “10 Cloverfield Lane.”
With the new Predator film in the works, fans of the franchise have much to look forward to as it continues to expand and evolve under the direction of Trachtenberg.
