Michael Weatherly returned to NCIS on Monday, making a surprise appearance to honor the late David McCallum.
The actor, who played Tony DiNozzo, made a comeback to honor his late cast mate who died last year. On Monday night, the popular series aired a tribute to David, who played Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard on the drama. The character was killed off the show due to the loss of McCallum last year, leaving fans heartbroken. McCallum, who died at the age of 90 at the end of September 2023, appeared in every season of NCIS since joining the show in 2003.
In the latest episode, fans also saw Jimmy receive a Ducky-inspired tie from Tony, who shared memories and stories with him.
And the show ended with a touching tribute that read, “In Memory of Our Dear Friend and Colleague, David McCallum. We Will Miss You.”
Michael, who left NCIS in 2016 to star in the drama Bull, seemed to hint that he might be making a return beyond this one episode.
The actor expressed his emotions on his social media. He shared a photo of himself with director Daniela Ruah, and wrote: “Being back on #NCIS was truly Amazing.”
