Renowned British-Ghanaian actor Idris Elba has urged African filmmakers to concentrate on creating high-quality content. The Africa Cinema Summit (ACS) began its second edition on October 7, 2024, at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

Organized by Ghana’s National Film Authority (NFA), the summit’s first day was highlighted by the presence of the iconic British actor and Chairman of IE7&The Akuna Group, Idris Elba.

In an interview with Channel One TV during the summit, Elba emphasized the importance of African filmmakers investing in quality production values.

He noted that advancements in technology have made it easier to produce professional-grade films. Elba, known for his roles in films like “Luther” and “The Beast of No Nation,” believes that by prioritizing quality, African cinema can compete on the global stage.

During his speech, Elba emphasized the need for filmmakers to consider the local market while also aiming for international appeal. He highlighted the importance of focusing on producing high-quality films that meet global standards.

The democratization of equipment has made it possible for all filmmakers to shoot with high-quality cameras and good microphones, emphasizing the need to pay attention to quality in film production.

The Africa Cinema Summit, aimed at promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth within the African cinema industry, will conclude on October 10.
