Ghanaian artist Alapta Wan has urged the government to expand the annual ‘Taste of Ghana’ event to include regions beyond Greater Accra.
The event, organized by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), showcases various Ghanaian dishes, music, and other art forms.
With four successful editions under its belt, ‘Taste of Ghana’ features vendors offering a wide range of Ghanaian foods, drinks, clothing, fashion accessories, and artifacts. The event also includes activities like cooking competitions, fashion shows, concerts, art exhibitions, canopy walks, masquerade performances, and film screenings.
Notable artists like Shatta Wale, R2Bees, EL, Fancy Gadam, Adina, Gasmilla, Vanilla, Eno Barony, and Kofi Jamal have graced the stage at ‘Taste of Ghana’. Alapta Wan, who has also performed at the event, suggested on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that the event should be rotated across different regions in the country.
The Navrongo-based artist, known for her reggae and dancehall music, highlighted the challenges faced by artists outside Greater Accra, such as limited resources and visibility. Despite these obstacles, Alapta Wan has managed to gain significant recognition through strategic efforts by her team.
In addition to her musical endeavors, Alapta Wan hosts an annual concert called BoombaFest in Navrongo. Some of her popular songs include ‘Africa is Bleeding,’ ‘Bless Me,’ ‘Odeshi,’ and ‘Boosu’.
Alapta Wan’s call for the expansion of ‘Taste of Ghana’ to other regions aims to provide opportunities for artists outside the capital city to showcase their talent and promote cultural diversity across Ghana.
