Television personality Berlinda Addardey, popularly known as Berla Mundi, has recently shared a unique twist on the traditional Ghanaian dish “Gob3.”
During her appearance on the Day Show to discuss the 3FM “Gob3” festival, Berla reminisced about her school days, where she and her friends would enhance their beans meal by adding crunchy plantain chips.
Rather than the usual addition of gari, Berla revealed that she and her peers would purchase plantain chips from a nearby shop and incorporate them into their beans dish for a delightful experience.
This unconventional pairing sparked a discussion on the show, with participant AJ Sarpong expressing her surprise at the practice of consuming raw beans with oil. AJ’s childhood perception of “Gob3” was associated with beans stew and soft plantain, making the concept of plain beans a new discovery for her.
“Gob3,” a traditional Ghanaian dish known for its simplicity and affordability, has seen exciting additions over the years, such as fried plantains and eggs.
Plantain chips, a popular snack in Ghana made from thinly sliced, unripe plantains, offer a healthier alternative when baked.
