The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and Beyond the Return (BTR) Secretariat have put out a call for recommendations from event organizers and promoters for the lineup of activities for ‘December in GH’ in 2024. This early call for suggestions is in anticipation of a surge in tourist arrivals during the holiday season.

CEO of GTA, Mr. Akwesi Agyeman, highlighted that ‘December in GH’ is a national initiative overseen by the Authority and the BTR Secretariat under the National Steering Committee. Event organizers interested in official recognition for their programs as part of ‘December in GH’ are encouraged to submit formal proposals for consideration.

The early announcement is aimed at providing visitors with enough time to plan their trips and choose the activities and festivals they want to be a part of during December. Mr. Agyeman emphasized that Ghana has become a leading holiday destination in Africa through this initiative, changing the narrative about the African experience.

He noted that ‘December in GH’ has been instrumental in driving tourism, economic impact, and positioning Ghana as the “Centre of the World.” The tourism sector has seen increased investments, with 122 new projects registered last year. Domestic tourism numbers have also seen significant growth over the years, with Ghanaians making up a large percentage of visitors.

This year’s endorsement process will be rigorous, with event organizers required to align their events with at least one of BTR’s seven core pillars. Endorsed events must proceed as planned without last-minute cancellations. Mr. Agyeman urged event organizers to collaborate with the authority and the steering committee to make Ghana’s December a memorable experience.

Despite the upcoming national elections, Mr. Agyeman assured that the events would proceed as scheduled, as there is still keen interest from participants. Proposals for events scheduled between November 15, 2024, and January 15, 2025, must be submitted by April 30, 2024, using the official form available on the BTR website at www.beyondthereturngh.com. Let us come together to shape the future of travel and create unforgettable experiences during Ghana’s December festivities.
