A former Chief of Staff during the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani, has expressed concerns about the timing of President Akufo-Addo’s recent ministerial reshuffling.

Talking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Mpiani highlighted his reservations about the reshuffle, especially since it comes just ten months before the general election. He acknowledged the President’s prerogative to make changes to his cabinet but questioned the appropriateness of implementing such changes at this time.

Mr. Mpiani emphasized that the short duration before the elections raises questions about the effectiveness and impact of the reshuffle. He went on to express concerns about the learning curve for the newly appointed ministers, stating that the duration before the elections is too short for them to fully grasp the intricacies of their ministries adequately.

President Akufo-Addo recently announced a significant ministerial reshuffle which affected approximately 12 current ministers of state, including 10 cabinet ministers and two regional ministers.

Notable ministers who lost their positions entirely include Ken Ofori-Atta and Kwaku Agyeman Manu, who were the Finance and Health Ministers, respectively.

Mr. Mpiani’s concerns add to a growing list of influential voices expressing doubts about the timing of the recent ministerial reshuffling. As the political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the upcoming elections, the effectiveness and impact of these changes will undoubtedly be closely watched and analyzed.
