A concerned parent of a Bechem Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESEC) student is calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the severe beating of his son by a teacher at the school.

Currently, the victim is receiving treatment at the Bechem Government Hospital in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region. The victim, a final year Visual Arts student named Ebenezer Yeboah, and five other students were subjected to severe beatings by a teacher (name withheld) for failing to pay “dining fees,” which resulted in multiple facial bruises for Yeboah.

The incident took place on the evening of Tuesday, January 30, 2024, and Yeboah was immediately admitted to the hospital. His mother, Mrs. Lawrinda Yeboah, received a distress call from one of the students and rushed to the hospital.

During an interview, Mrs. Yeboah expressed her appeal to the GES for swift and thorough investigations into the matter, urging the authorities to ensure that the right action is taken.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the school, a teacher confirmed the story, while the headmaster was unavailable due to a school authority meeting. Meanwhile, Mr. Yaw Frimpong, the Public Relations Officer of the Tano South Municipal Directorate of Education, disclosed that the school’s headmaster had officially reported the incident to the Directorate, and a visit to the school was pending.

In a promising development, two management members and the headmaster of the school have visited Yeboah at the hospital and assured the family of their commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter.
