Reshuffle: Asenso-Boakye appointed Roads and Highways Ministry

Francis Asenso-Boakye has been appointed as the new Minister for the Roads and Highways Ministry in a cabinet reshuffle by President Akufo-Addo.

Previously, Asenso-Boakye served as the Housing Minister since March 2021, where he focused on policies and projects aimed at promoting national development and improving the quality of life for Ghanaians.

Before his appointment as Minister, Asenso-Boakye served as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Political Assistant to President Akufo-Addo. He played a crucial role in aligning government programs with the President’s agenda and overseeing impactful projects in the infrastructure sector.

As Housing Minister, Asenso-Boakye achieved notable milestones, including the establishment of the National Rental Assistance Scheme (NRAS), which provides rent advance payments to support low-to-middle-income earners and alleviate the burden of paying rent upfront. Additionally, he led the passage of the Ghana Hydrological Authority Act, which transformed the Hydrological Services Department into the autonomous Ghana Hydrological Authority, enhancing water management practices in the country.

Furthermore, Asenso-Boakye oversaw the establishment of the Real Estate Agency Council (REAC) and initiated efforts to review the Rent Act of 1963 and the Rent Control Law of 1986, aiming to stimulate private sector investment in the rental housing sector.

He also initiated steps for the establishment of the Ghana Housing Authority (GHA) and introduced the National Affordable Housing Programme, with projects in Pokuase/Amasaman and Dedesua aimed at addressing the housing challenges faced by many Ghanaians.

In recognition of his contributions to the infrastructure and housing sector, Asenso-Boakye was awarded the “Distinguished Infrastructure Minister of the year 2022/23” by the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry.

Asenso-Boakye’s appointment to the Roads and Highways Ministry reflects his dedication to promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life for all Ghanaians. His innovative policies and strategic initiatives have made significant strides in transforming Ghana’s infrastructure and housing landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s development trajectory.
