Market women in Makola are raising concerns over the delayed waste disposal services in their area.
The women, who rely on selling goods in this vibrant market, expressed frustration as refuse are dumped and heaped right in front of their stalls, resulting in an unattractive and filthy setting.
Despite diligently paying for waste disposal services provided by Zoomlion, the market women claim that the timely collection of waste has become increasingly elusive.
The situation has sparked dissatisfaction among the traders, impacting their ability to conduct business and maintain a clean and healthy working environment.
Speaking to JoyNews, the market women expressed their frustrations saying “I have been selling detergents in Makola for some time now; the smell from the rubbish is so unbearable.
“The rubbish has been here for 3 to 4 days now. Imagine there is rubbish in front of me and what I was selling was an edible thing who would like to buy from me?
No one will buy from me and so we need the help of the government, if they help us we will also help them but for now, we are devastated,’’ says Madam Dzigbordi.
“We constantly encounter trash piled in front of our stores, which prevents us from being able to sell our products.
Therefore, the government ought to detain anyone caught spreading trash around improperly. To ensure that the work is completed effectively, the government should oversee those who are assigned tasks,” says Lamle
The market women emphasized the need for a swift resolution to the issue, pointing out that the unattended waste not only affects their businesses but also poses a health risk to everyone in the market space.
