Intermittent power cuts due to internal faults – ECG justifies recent outages

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has given reasons for the recent power cuts experienced in the Ashanti Region.

According to ECG, the power cuts are due to the restoration of redundancies in power distribution, and not part of a load shedding exercise.

The intermittent power outages have lasted for nearly 12 hours in some areas of the Ashanti Region, negatively impacting businesses and livelihoods. Residents have expressed worry and frustration over the situation, calling on ECG to provide an explanation.

However, the Ashanti South ECG General Manager, Ing. Fredrick Kwabena Bediako, has assured that the issues are internal and not from GRIDCO or their power generators. He stated that the company is putting in place measures to ensure stable electricity, but it will take some time to fully resolve the issue.

Bediako highlighted that the power cuts are not due to generational shortfalls, but rather internal ECG issues that are being addressed.

“We may come back to the way forward and see how best we can solve the situation,” he added.

The ECG General Manager also explained that cable faults and heat can cause such issues, and that most of the cables must have joints that need to be repaired.

The situation is still ongoing, and ECG is working to provide a long-term solution to ensure stable electricity in the region.
