Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been stripped of the key to the city, as reported by TMZ.
The decision was made by New York City Mayor Eric Adams following the release of footage showing Diddy abusing his ex-girlfriend, Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura.
In a letter obtained by TMZ, Mayor Adams expressed his deep disturbance over the video and condemned Diddy’s actions.
He stated, “I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.”
The Mayor emphasized that the key to the city is meant for individuals who demonstrate the highest level of achievement and serve as a model for fellow New Yorkers.
The letter, sent on June 4, led to the return of the key by Diddy just six days later. Diddy had originally received the key in a ceremony tied to the release of his album, ‘The Love Album,’ in 2023.
This decision comes after Howard University revoked Diddy’s honorary degree and pledged to return his $1 million donation, though the pledge was not fulfilled.
Mayor Adams had announced in May that an investigation was underway to consider revoking the honour.
