Angel Hernandez, a long-time MLB umpire, has announced his retirement after over three decades in the league.
Hernandez, who has officiated two World Series championships and three All-Star games, made his final call on May 9, 2024.
In a statement regarding his retirement, Hernandez expressed his gratitude for being able to live out his childhood dream of umpiring in the major leagues since his debut in 1991.
He mentioned the friendships he made with colleagues and the positive changes he witnessed in baseball, including the expansion and promotion of minorities.
Hernandez, who was born in Havana, Cuba, and later moved to Hialeah, Florida, currently resides in Loxahatchee with his wife and two daughters.
Before joining the MLB, he officiated games in various leagues such as the Florida State League and the Southern League.
