Why did McDonald’s get rid of Ronald McDonald?

Ronald McDonald has been synonymous with McDonald’s for decades, but many fans have probably been wondering where he’s disappeared to.

The clown was first introduced in the 1960s and quickly rose to fame through various advertisements and as the face of the fast-food chain.

Why did McDonald’s get rid of Ronald McDonald?

Although the clown was once adored, he was retired by McDonald’s in 2016 following a disturbing trend. This craze saw pranksters dressing as clowns and even terror at people with weapons. The trend began in the US and quickly spread to the UK, causing serious concern.

Due to this, the company announced that it would be thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events. As a result, his appearances have become quite rare.

According to a statement on the McDonald’s website, Ronald McDonald no longer appears in UK advertising, but still holds various duties at the fast-food chain.

Additionally, Ronald remains a figure in the Ronald McDonald House Charities Logo, but only his arm is visible. Critics had been campaigning for the clown’s removal for years, largely due to the perception that he was promoting unhealthy eating habits in children. However, despite no longer being the face of McDonald’s, Ronald McDonald is the face of Ronald McDonald House Charities UK, which helps families of seriously ill children stay close together in times of need.
